WOW! 2013 WAS A GREAT YEAR FOR RECYCLING IN HENDRICKS COUNTY!

HERE ARE THE RAW NUMBERS:

Over 1,500 tons of paper was recycled through the Paper Retriever (those green and yellow bins at schools & churches) program in 2013.

500 tons of paper & cardboard & 257 tons of glass, aluminum & plastic was recycled at the District’s Recycling Drop-Off Centers in Lizton, Coatesville and Stilesville.

(And, although those numbers are incredible and impressive, this doesn’t even capture the full picture.  Many of you recycle in your curbside recycling bin through a private business such as Ray’s Trash or Republic Services.  Although we know that curbside recycling rates are increasing, in general, private businesses are not obligated to share those numbers with us.  Suffice it to say that we are kicking trash in Hendricks County!)

But wait!  There’s more!  You can recycle more than just paper, bottle and cans–and you did!  4,570 visitors recycled brush, grass clippings, leaves and more at the District’s Yard Waste Recycling Centers in 2013.

As if that wasn’t enough…2,959 people participated in our Tox-Away Days and recycled or properly disposed of nearly 225,000 pounds of household hazardous waste, tires, electronics & appliances.  That means lots of hazardous material did not make its way into our rivers, streams and groundwater!

Thank you very much for a great 2013–let’s do even better in 2014!
